January 2009 was a harsh, cold and snowy month. Scenes of ice and snow dominated my photographic efforts.
For the most part I stuck close to home limiting myself to quick forays into the back yard. A silky snowfall in the early hours of the last day
combined with stark cold created a day of crystalline beauty. On that day, after a painting class in the morning, I ensconced myself in Armorall long johns, insulated coveralls, ski hat, face mask,
hand warmers inside thin heat-reflecting gloves and spent several hours roaming around with my camera. Images of snow-covered statues at the Allegheny Cemetery,
many depicted in Mediterranean garb, offering compelling visual commentaries.
